Stanley Duane "Dewey" Whetstone, 76, of Menlo, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
He was born October 12, 1930, in Casey, Iowa, the son of Stanley and Bess (Madsen) Whetstone.
Dewey attended and graduated from the Casey High School in 1947.
On September 14, 1952, Dewey married Patricia Curry of Dexter, Iowa and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in the Korean War.
He lived in the Casey area all his life and was a lifelong farmer and raised Angus Cattle. As well as farming, Dewey was an over the road truck driver for 11 years.
Dewey was a member of the United Methodist Church in Casey. He enjoyed reading, fishing and the outdoors. Dewey took time for everyone and loved to visit.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Pat of Casey, Iowa; his two daughters, Kris of Johnston, Iowa and Kim of Casey, Iowa; his son, Mark Whetstone and his wife, Jayne of Menlo, Iowa; a brother, Marvin Whetstone and his wife, Vera of Stuart, Iowa; and a sister, Joan Reed of Atlantic, Iowa; three step-grandchildren, Josh Burris of New England, North Dakota, Julie Doyle and her husband, Ben of Menlo, Iowa, and Jenni Burris and her fiancé, Josh Tigges of Stuart, Iowa; 3 step- great-grandchildren, Bailey and Briana Burris and Jackson Doyle.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Casey, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Dalmanutha Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2007, at the church, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hockenberry Funeral Home in Casey is in charge of the arrangements.
