Steven Leo Borkowski

Steven Leo Borkowski, the son of Dallas and Arlene (Christensen) Borkowski, was born March 17, 1947, at St Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa and died June 12, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 69 years, 2 months, and 25 days.
Steven was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1966. On May 31, 1966 he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served a six term being honorably discharged on May 30, 1972. Following High School he was employed driving trucks for several area businesses.
On June 14, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Budatz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Two sons Chad and Tony were born to this union. Steven started farming in 1975 and also sold and delivered feed for Moormans Feed Company. He grew row crops and raised livestock. In the late 1970’s along with farming he worked for Audubon County in the Road Department. Steven operated a maintainer and drove trucks for the County until he retired in December of 2015. Steven lived on the farm then moved into Audubon in 1985.
Steven was a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon and a member of American Legion Post # 120, Audubon, Iowa. Steven loved to farm which lead to his joy in gardening. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Thoroughbred Horse Racing, NASCAR, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed fishing, watching RFD TV, and reading his daily Des Moines Register. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Steven was preceded in death by his granddaughter Morgan Lee Borkowski, his parents, and his sister Vicki Borkowski.
Survivors include his sons Chad and wife Linda Borkowski of Webster City, Iowa and Tony and wife Jessica Borkowski of Glidden, Iowa; his grandchildren Brian Borkowski and Matt Borkowski both of Webster City, Iowa, Westly Borkowski and Layne Borkowski both of Audubon, Iowa, Alexis Borkowski and Ty Borkowski both of Glidden, Iowa; his sisters Connie and husband Steve Casson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sandra and husband David Koch of Oakland Acres, Iowa, and Jill and husband Jim Neleman of Half Way, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Matt Borkowski, Layne Borkowski, Keith King, Darrell Christensen, Rodger Hanson, and Gary Borkowski. The casket bearers will be Westly Borkowski, Brian Borkowski, Nicholas Weihs, Gary Umland, Nathan King, and Todd Lawshe. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening, June 16, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
