Stuart Fuhrman

Stuart Wayne Fuhrman, 66, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, in San Antonio.

He was born February 17, 1951, in Omaha, NE, to Robert and Alberta Fuhrman. Not long after his birth, the family moved to San Francisco, CA, and lived there until 1953 when they moved to South Sioux City, NE. Then from 1961 through 1966 they lived in Omaha, NE, moving to Fort Dodge, IA, after that. In 1968, the family moved to Massena, IA, where Stuart called home.

Stuart graduated from Cumberland/Massena High School in 1970. He attended college and in the mid to later 1970s he moved to San Antonio, TX, where he studied Mortuary Science at San Antonio College. Stuart starting working with the Bierschwale Family at Brookehill Funeral Home in San Antonio in 1978 and worked there for over 25 years. He was currently operating Southside Monuments in San Antonio as well as having Serenity Memorial Monuments in Casey, IA. He was a very proud American and served in the United States Army Reserves for 29 years.

Stuart never met a stranger, loved to cook, talk and carry on conversations, attended many of the Nebraska Huskers Bowl Games, and had many friends who will always remember him for his many acts of kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alberta Fuhrman.

Surviving and remembering him as the caring and generous man he was are his sisters, Shella Fuhrman and Sue (Steve) Keifer both of Tennessee, and his long-time special friend, Peggy Jacobs of Atlantic, Iowa. Others who will always keep Stuart in their thoughts are cousins, numerous other relatives and the many friends he kept in constant touch with, especially in San Antonio, Cumberland/Massena, Atlantic, and Omaha.

Following the services in San Antonio, TX, there will be a celebration of Stuart’s life at 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. There will be a time of sharing memories and watching the video before enjoying the lunch Stuart wanted to have for you. You may, however, drop by the funeral home anytime and leave a condolence for the family or sign the registration page.

Interment will take place in the Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated to the Cumberland United Methodist Church, 317 Monroe St., Cumberland, IA 50843. Stuart’s wishes were to assist the church in building a handicap accessible restroom on the main floor.
