Susan Jane Nancarrow, the daughter of Clyde and Ethel (Stauffer) Powers, was born May 30, 1949, in Laurens, Iowa and died August 20, 2017, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the of 68 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
Susan was baptized at the Methodist Church in Pocahontas, Iowa and later baptized at the Exira Christian Church. She attended Pocahontas Community schools until her family relocated to Exira, Iowa. Susan then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1967. After high school, Susan worked for several businesses in the Exira and Audubon communities.
On November 16, 1968, she was united in marriage to Stephen Earl Nancarrow at the Exira Christian Church. They were blessed with two children Kristine and Jeffrey. She worked several different jobs then studied and received her certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Susan was employed by Medicap Pharmacy in Exira then later at the Medicap Pharmacy in Audubon where she worked until she retired in July of 2015 due to her failing health.
Susan was an active member of the Exira Christian Church. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, enjoyed the Bible study, and served as a Deaconess and an Elder. Susan was a member of both the American Legion and the Exira Fire Department Auxiliaries and had served on the Library Board. She enjoyed her flower garden, listening to the song birds, and tracking the migration of the Monarch butterflies. Susan enjoyed quilting, doing all types of art work, and was an avid reader.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister Opal Harms; and her brother-in-law Joe Sobotka.
Survivors include her husband Stephen E. Nancarrow of Exira, Iowa; her daughter Kristine and husband Cory Fuller of Omaha, Nebraska and her son Jeffrey Nancarrow of Daytona Beach, Florida; her grandson Tyler Schwab; and her step-grandson Devon Fuller both of Omaha, Nebraska; her brothers and sisters Doris Sobotka of Laurens, Iowa, Monica and husband Bill Plantz of Pocahontas, Iowa, Robert and wife Mona Powers and Kenneth Powers and fiancée Denise Schlater all of Exira, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends Tuesday evening, August 22, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Exira Christian Church. Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa. The honorary casket bearers will be Michael Sorensen, Jerry Sobotka, Randy Plantz, Tanner Powers, Travis Powers, and Charles Wheeler.
