Susan Jane Young

Susan Jane Young, the daughter of William and Alice (Black) Ferguson, was born June 6, 1945, in San Diego, California and died November 6, 2013, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 68 years, and 5 months. Susan was confirmed at the Methodist Church in Glidden, Iowa. She attended Glidden Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1963. Susan attended the University of Northern Iowa graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. On December 23, 1967, she was united in marriage to Lynn Platt at the Methodist Church in Glidden, Iowa. Two children: Nicholas and Rachel were born to this union. Susan was an elementary teacher in Sumner, Iowa for several years. While teaching she also continued her education receiving her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado and later her Special Education Administration Certification from Drake University. She taught school in Harcourt, Le Mars, Ida Grove, and the Battle Creek Schools. In 1984, she moved to Audubon, Iowa and was a Heartland Special Education Consultant for the Audubon, Guthrie, and Carroll school districts. On August 14, 1985, she married Craig Young at the Polk County Courthouse in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to their present home in 1986. She continued as a consultant later becoming a Special Education Zone Coordinator for Heartland until she retired in 2005. Susan enjoyed gardening, raising amazing vegetables and beautiful flowers. She loved to travel all over the world with London and Paris being a couple of her favorite cities. She also enjoyed reading, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her identical twin sister Sandy Moorhouse. Survivors include her husband Craig (Twigs) Young of Audubon, Iowa; her children: Nick and wife Jacqueline Platt of Ankeny, Iowa and their son Harrison; Rachel and husband Joe Bolduc of Johnston, Iowa; her sister Janet Rope of Broomfield, Colorado; her brother Bill and wife Judy Ferguson of Goodyear, Arizona; her brother-in-law Alvie and wife Kate Young of Ames, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
A private family disposition of the cremains will be at a later date.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be Monday, November 11, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
