Suzan Kay Hummon was born May 3, 1951, the daughter of Alan Dwight and Elizabeth Anne (Sherpie) Hummon in Omaha, Nebraska, and passed away Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
Suzan grew up in Merritt Island, Florida, and graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1969. On December 15, 1972, she married William Kennedy Sr. in Savannah, Georgia. Because William's career was in the Navy, the couple made their home in various places including Washington, California, Hawaii, Virginia, Connecticut and Arizona. Suzan was an active military wife. During this time the family grew with the addition of three children and ultimately they moved to Iowa in 1989.
As the children grew, Suzan began her working career. She enjoyed taking care of others, working as a waitress, cosmetologist and seamstress. In 1994 she graduated from Iowa Western Community College with a degree in Practical Nursing, devoting her talents to long term care.
Suzan will be remembered as someone who put others before herself, whether it was as a wonderful caring nurse, or as the grandmother that lived her life for her grandchildren. She had a special way of making people laugh. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting and flower gardening in her spare time.
Survivors include her parents, Al and Betty Hummon of Griswold, Iowa; her children, Bill (Emily) Kennedy of Elliott, Iowa, Michelle (Jon) Gifford of Atlantic, Iowa, and Alan (Chris) Kennedy of Anita, Iowa; her grandchildren, Ariana and Aiden Kennedy of Elliott, Iowa, and Sidney, Chloe and Tiffany Gifford of Atlantic, Iowa; her brothers, Jim Hummon of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and Mike (Diane) Hummon of St. Paul, Minnesota; along with many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dwight Hummon, and her grandmothers, Clara Sherpie and Lynnette Hummon.

Lunch will be held in the Hockenberry Family Care community room following the service.
