Terry Lee Lauridsen, the son of Emmert and Florence (Schwab) Lauridsen, was born March 24, 1945, in Exira, Iowa and died December 29, 2018, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
Terry was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church. He attended the Exira Community Schools, graduating with the High School Class of 1963. Terry moved to Des Moines, Iowa and studied at the Iowa Barber College where he received his professional Barber license. He returned to the area and was employed at Sam’s Barber Shop in Audubon, Iowa.
On August 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judith Farstrup at the Exira Lutheran Church. They lived in Audubon for a short time then moved to Judy’s family farm north of Exira. They were blessed with three children: Adam, Kevin, and Tracy. Terry continued to work in Audubon for a few years, then opened his own barber shop in Exira. In 1979, Terry and Judy purchased the hardware store in Exira. Terry continued cutting hair and also helped Judy operate T&J Hardware until they closed the store. In 1993, Terry traveled to Romania to work with the farmers to teach and train them on newer technologies. Later Terry sold life insurance until he retired.
During retirement, Terry enjoyed babysitting for the grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, and he and Judy drove a motor home to Anchorage, Alaska to visit their son Adam and his family who were stationed there. Terry had a “hobby” farm and always kept it stocked with exotic animals like llamas, miniature horses, and goats. He also was very involved in 4-H and helped his children and grandchildren with their projects.
Terry was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Exira Community Club and the Exira Booster Club, was instrumental in updating the ball field in the 1970’s, and was on the board that helped to build the Exira Rec Center. Terry enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the Red Barn and then at Darrell’s Place.
Preceding him in death was his granddaughter Emmi An Christensen; his parents Emmert and Florence Lauridsen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Elva Farstrup; and his sister-in-law Margaret Spoo.
