Thelma Elsia Borkowski, the daughter Frank and Hazel Faye Jones Dittman, was born November 17, 1918, at her parents home in Audubon, Iowa and died June 14, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
Thelma was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, IA. She attended Audubon Community School and Audubon High School. Thelma then worked at home caring for her brothers and also worked various jobs.
On November 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lester LaVern Borkowski in Audubon, IA. Thelma and her daughter Reta joined Lester and then seven additional children were born to this union (Dolores Fae, Beverly Marie, Gloria Jean, Donald LaVern, David Earl, Lori Ann, and Penny Sue).
Thelma was employed at Jungs Bakery for several years. She worked various other jobs, then was employed as a cook at the Audubon High School for several years. Lester died March 12, 1995. Thelma enjoyed her home then moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon on April 27, 2009.
Thelma was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and every November she would serve the ladies a delicious brunch in her home. Thelma loved to celebrate her birthday by having lunch and cake for the neighborhood women.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Lester; her children: Beverly Parkhurst, Donald and Jayana Borkowski, David Borkowsi; her grandchildren: Brian Mulford, Allison and Emily Meaike; her parents; her an infant brother and her brothers: Charles Dittman and Earl Dittman.
Survivors include her children: Reta and husband Jim Loukota of Goodman, MO; Dolores Gourley, Gloria and husband Gary Mulford, Lori and husband Peter Hanson, Penny and husband Randy LaFoy all of Audubon, IA: her daughter-in-law, Diane Borkowski of Atlantic, IA and son-in-law Charles Parkhurst of Harlan, IA; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren;. her aunt Edna Hageman of El Paso, TX, her cousins: Maxine Cowton of Albuquerque, NM; Kathy Herring of Ankeny, IA; and sisters-in-law Hilda Borkowski and Darlene Dittman both of Audubon, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dwayne Ferguson on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, IA.
