Thomas Charles Billheimer, 63, was born December 15, 1949, in Stockton, California, the son of James and Darlene (Maschmeier) Billheimer and passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at his home in Casey, Iowa.
He graduated from Stockton High School in 1967. Tom was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19 and served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968 to 1971. After his service, he worked for Schultz Air Conditioning and later worked for his brother at Jim Billheimer Electric.
Tom moved to Casey in 1974 and worked for his father at Casey Concrete. He later took a job with the U.S. Postal Service where he became Postmaster and worked until his retirement in 2007.
Tom met Linda Zimmer for the first time during the summer of 1974 at Jenny and Art's Restaurant and they were married September 14, 1975, in Casey, IA. They made their home in Casey and had two children.
Tom served on the Casey City Council for 24 years and the Casey School Board for 6 years. Tom was also on the Casey Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. He did volunteer work for hospice, Special Olympics and the Living History Farms.
Tom had a great sense of humor, always had a smile on his face and was a very kind and thoughtful man. He enjoyed sporting events, but his favorite past time was going to the horse races.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Billheimer; his mother, Darlene Paschel; his, step-father, Don Paschel; his brother-in-law, John Zimmer; and his parents-in-law, Art and Jenny Zimmer.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Billheimer of Casey, IA; his son, Ryan and wife, Shannon Billheimer of Adair, IA; his daughter, Trish Althoff of Detroit Lakes, MN; his grandchildren, Cale, Clay and Finn Billheimer and Brink and Emma Althoff; his brothers, Jim (Pat) Billheimer of Riverside, CA, Robert Billheimer of Buffalo, WY and Ken (Nick) Billheimer of San Francisco, CA; step-mother, Diane Billheimer of Casey, IA; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, Iowa.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
