Timothy Richard Miller

Timothy Richard Miller, the son of Richard and Marilyn (Nelson) Miller, was born August 20, 1954 in Audubon, Iowa and died September 14, 2015.
Tim was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. He attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the class of 1972. He studied at the University of South Dakota then attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. Tim moved to Iowa City and transferred to the University of Iowa where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1978. While attending college Tim enjoyed working at movie theaters in Cedar Falls and Iowa City.
In 1981 Tim was united in marriage to Fayla Rasmussen in Dubuque. Tim was employed at the University of Dubuque as a Placement Director/Counselor. Two sons, Max and Scott, were born to this union. Tim returned to the University of Iowa and in 1981 received his Masters and in 1989 his PhD. in Educational Measurement and Statistics. He was the first recipient of the Melvin R. Novick Award in Educational Measurement and Statistics for outstanding graduate work. The family lived in West Branch while he was employed by ACT, Inc. in Iowa City starting as a Psychometrician 1 and later becoming an Assistant Vice President, Development Division and finally a Senior Research Scientist, Measurement Research Department. Many of his duties included administrative responsibilities for four departments, supervising staff, and assisting in planning and testing research projects. He was associated with ACT from 1989 through 2006. Then from 2006 through 2008 he was the Senior Psychometrician for Pearson VUE in Bloomington, Minnesota and from 2008 through 2010 he was the Director of Research Services/Principle Research Scientist for Riverside Publishing in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. He returned to the Audubon area in April of 2013 and resided with his mother until moving to the Friendship Home in Audubon in August of 2015.
Tim was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed playing golf, playing guitar, bike riding, watching movies, cooking, and gardening, especially growing different varieties of peppers. His family and friends enjoyed his quick wit and sense of humor. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with and traveling with his sons Max and Scott.
Tim was preceded in death by his father Richard Miller; his grandparents Max and Gladys Nelson and Hans and Dena Miller; and his aunts Jeannette and husband Virgil Engelhoven and Elaine Miller.
Survivors include his sons Max Miller of West Des Moines, Iowa, Scott Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa and their mother Fayla Cannon of Quasqueton, Iowa; his mother Marilyn Miller of Audubon, Iowa; his brother Steve and wife Sharon Miller of Audubon, Iowa; his nephew Seth Miller of Bellevue, Nebraska; his niece Keely and husband Tim Hartschen and their children Peyton and Kohen all of Johnston, Iowa; four cousins and their families in Arkansas; other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service will be conducted by Pastor Connie Claxton on September 28, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
