Troy Wheelock

Troy Murvin Wheelock, 51, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Caring Acres in Anita.

He was born February 22, 1962, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Arthur and LaRue (Taylor) Wheelock. Troy was raised in Anita and attended the Anita Community Schools. He graduated from Anita High School in 1980. After high school he worked for a short time for Betts & Beer, he then attended a building trade course at the Creston Community College. When he completed college he moved to Texas and worked in construction for over six years before returning to Anita due to health reasons concerning Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) more commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease".

Troy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita.

When he was in high school he was one of the top golfers on the golf team along with excelling in baseball, football, and wrestling. He enjoyed fantasy football, watching golf, he loved to help others, and hang out with friends. Troy liked to go around Anita in his wheelchair and visit with people to just see what was going on.

He is survived by his parents, Art and LaRue Wheelock of Anita; his two brothers, Bart Wheelock and his wife, Jeanine Fisher of Council Bluffs, IA and Tim Wheelock and his wife, Brenda of Anita, IA; his nephew, Michael Fisher of California; his niece, Jasmin Pottorff of Indiana; his great-nephews, Alex Fisher of Council Bluffs and Max Fisher of California; his special friend, Angela Hagen and her family of Ankeny; other relatives and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Murvin and Madeline Taylor and Ed and Evelyn Wheelock.

A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with visitation with family from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.
