Veda Christena Larsen

Veda Christena Larsen, the daughter of Ejler and Hansine Kristine “Christena” Nielsen Anderson was born April 25, 1927, at her parents’ home west of Exira, Iowa and died March 19, 2014 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 24 days. Veda was baptized on July 3, 1927, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa and confirmed on April 20, 1949, at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school in Audubon County, Iowa and then attended the Exira Community Schools in Exira, Iowa. On February 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Norman E. Larsen at the Exira Lutheran Church. Four children: Eldon, Janice, Janet, and Janell were born to this union. In 1949, they rented a farm northwest of Kimballton, Iowa for a short time where Veda was a homemaker raising her family. In 1951, they moved to a farm 2 miles south of Viola Center where they resided for 40 years until they retired from farming in 1988. They then made their home in Audubon, Iowa in July of 1991. Norman died October 6, 1994. Veda enjoyed her home in Audubon until she moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in November of 2012. Veda was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She was an extraordinary seamstress and made many clothes for her children. But most of all she loved to play games and spend time with her family. Veda was preceded in death by her husband Norman E. Larsen; her parents; her infant twin sisters: Madalyn Anderson and Evelyn Anderson; her infant sister Imogene Anderson; her brothers: Russell and wife Deloris Anderson and Milo Anderson; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Jens and Agnes Larsen; her brothers-in-law: James Larsen and Earl Bennett; her sisters-in-law: Rose Anderson, Betty Anderson, and Joan Larsen. Survivors include her children: Eldon and wife Margo Larsen of Elk Horn, Iowa; Janice and husband Richard Emery of Hamlin, Iowa; Janet and husband Rick Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; Janell and husband Tom Bluml of Audubon; her grandchildren: Sarah Larsen and fiancé Dustin Thayer of Spencer, Iowa; Jennifer and husband Doug Staines of Waverly, Iowa; Michael and wife Trisha Emery of Jefferson, Iowa; Jay Jensen and fiancé Tracie Kurth of Audubon; Jason and wife Teri Jensen of Ames, Iowa; Stephanie Hansen of Audubon; Jessica Bluml and husband Gregor Ernst of Ida Grove, Iowa; Kristin and husband Robert Mallinger of Jefferson; Jamie Bluml of Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Addilyn Larsen of Spencer; Katelyn Staines of Ames; Nicole Staines and Jacob Staines both of Waverly; Kyle Emery and Molly Emery both of Carroll, Iowa; Geena Jensen and Kyle Jensen both Ames; Tyler Jensen and Jordan Jensen both of Brayton, Iowa; Jennifer Jensen of Audubon; Braelyn Herron of Audubon; Avery Ernst and Brynn Ernst both of Ida Grove; Xavier Mallinger of Jefferson; her step great grandchildren: August Halversen and Neysa Halversen both of Jefferson; Jack Glidden of Audubon; her brother and sister: Lola Bennett of Carroll; Richard Anderson and fiancé Loureen Sherod of Brayton; her sisters-in-law: Florence Anderson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Verda Mae Larsen of Harlan, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Saturday afternoon at 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.
