Velma Blanche Thompson

Velma Blanche Thompson, the daughter of Charles and Anna May Crawford Fulton, was born January 10, 1920, at her parents home in Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died March 26, 2011, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 16 days.
Velma was baptized at the Christian Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended rural school east of Audubon and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1940.
On November 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Virgil R. Thompson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Shenandoah, Iowa. Velma was a homemaker and helped Virgil farm. They farmed near Coon Rapids, Iowa for 4 years, and then operated a farm east of Audubon for another 4 years. They then purchased a farm in Guthrie County, Iowa. They operated a dairy farm for many years and usually raised hogs and occasionally sheep. They retired in 1977, sold the farm and moved into Audubon.
After they moved into Audubon Velma was able to participate in many of the activities she really enjoyed. These included being involved with many of the Church activities. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and baking. Virgil died July 28, 1995. Velma enjoyed her home then moved to the Friendship Home in January of 2009. Velma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Virgil were her parents; her brothers and sisters: Luella Whan, Dale and wife Alice Fulton, Glen and wife Leona Fulton; Ruth and husband Ray Huxel, Harold Fulton, James Fulton.
Survivors include her children: Leon and wife Judy of Audubon, Iowa; Linda and husband Eugene Smith of Atlantic, Iowa; LeAnn and husband Michael Lemberger of Ottumwa, Iowa her grandchildren: Jerry Thompson and Fiance Conda Dennis of Audubon, Brian Smith of Atlantic and special friend Jean Young of Oakland, Iowa, and Brent and wife Melinda Smith of De Soto, Iowa; her great grandchildren Jessica Thompson and Fiance Patrick Malloy, Katelyn Thompson and Stephanie Thompson, all of Exira, IA; Samantha Smith of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brandon Smith and special friend Alicyn Kuhns of Atlantic, Matthew Smith of Atlantic, Taylor Smith of De Soto, her great great grandchildren: Jaylen Malloy and Olivia Malloy both of Exira, IA and Justin James Smith of Atlantic, her sisters-in-law: Leone Fulton of Perry, IA and Carolyn Fulton of Cairo, Georgia; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening, March 29, 2011, at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa
