Vera Ramona Andersen, the daughter of Chris and Dorthea Lauridsen Johnson, was born December 19, 1918, at her parents’ home in Audubon County near Exira, Iowa and died May 21, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 2 days. Vera was baptized and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa on March 24, 1935. She attended rural school “Hamlin #5” south of Hamlin then helped operate the family farm. On February 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Arthur Andersen in Shenandoah, Iowa by Reverend Pearson at radio station KFNF. Two daughters, Darlene and Dixie were born to this union. They farmed south of Exira. Vera helped Art operate the farm and later was employed as a cook at the Exira Elementary School. They sold the farm in 1977 and moved into Exira. Vera continued working as a cook at the school until she retired after working there for over 24 years. Art died October 1, 1994. Vera enjoyed living in her home then later moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in 2007. Vera was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. In her younger years, Vera, played the accordion and enjoyed listening to accordion music as she became older. She also loved to play cards. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Art; her parents; her brother and sisters Violet and husband Frosig Poulsen, Milo and wife Christina Johnson, and Erma and husband Bill Andersen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lars Andersen, Chris and wife Agnes Andersen, Holger Andersen, Marinus Andersen, and Christine and husband Donald Eddy. Survivors include her daughters Darlene and husband Larry Johnston of Audubon, Iowa and Dixie and husband Larry Greedy of Sidney, Iowa; her grandchildren Shari and husband Kent Magnussen of Glenwood, Iowa, Jill Christensen of Malvern, Iowa, Beth and husband Greg Phillips of Hamburg, Iowa, and Leah and Jason Brion of Lincoln, Nebraska; her great grandchildren Josh, Zach, and Courtney Magnussen all of Glenwood, Carrie, Emma, Ben, Nate, and Isabel Christensen all of Malvern, Maryn and Cale Phillips both of Hamburg, and Grace Brion of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Lutheran Church. Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church, Exira, Iowa.
