Veral Dean Sorensen

Veral Dean Sorensen, the son of Clifford and Alberta (Hack) Sorensen, was born November 13, 1934, at his parents’ home in Shelby County, near Walnut, Iowa and died September 6, 2013, at his home in Exira, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 23 days. Veral was baptized at the Baptist Church. He attended rural school near Harlan, Iowa and attended Harlan High School. He then was employed as a truck driver. In August of 1955, he was united in marriage to Verlee Breining in St. Joseph, Missouri. He drove for the Brooks brother’s hauling livestock for a few years. Veral drove over the road for several years. Later he hauled eggs for Raymond Olsen. He then was employed by Trans-Con driving over the road and received an award for driving over one million miles with no accidents. He drove for the Audubon-Exira Ready Mix and later hauled grain for Roger Nelson. Veral has mowed for the Exira Cemetery for many years and did seasonal driving for Roger Nelson. Veral enjoyed raising calves and raising show ponies. In 1971, he won first place for the two pony hitch and the four pony hitch at the Iowa State Fair. He attended the Iowa State Fair for over 50 years in a row. He enjoyed wintering in Texas, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Lowell Sorensen. Survivors include Verlee Sorensen of Exira, Iowa; his children: Dale Sorensen of Bellevue, Nebraska; Randy and wife Debbie Sorensen of Irwin, Iowa; Laurie and husband Mike Uehling of Harrisburg, Missouri; Scott and wife Michelle Sorensen of Centralia, Missouri; Kendall Logue of Fort Scott, Kansas; his grandchildren: Amber, Tonya, Miranda, Cody, Kyndra, Kassandra, Alexandra, Savannah, Crystal, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Emersyn; 4 great grandchildren: his brother Jack and wife Sally Sorensen of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; his sister-in-law Janice Sorensen of Harlan, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
