Vincent Ehrman

Vince R. Ehrman, 80, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, November 27, 2009 at his home.

Vincent Richard Ehrman was born on the family farm northwest of Anita, Iowa, on January 22, 1929, to Frederick William and Theresa Kathryne (Neiens) Ehrman. He attended Country School Benton #6 through the 8th grade when he began farming.

On August 20, 1977, he married Elinor Edna Garside at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak, Iowa.

He spent time in the Army as a Corporal in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, Colorado Springs, CO and Michigan.

Vince started his working life by farming. He then was self-employed in painting and construction. After that he was employed by the Anita Municipal Utilities. Finally, he spent 29 years as a rural mail carrier.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, the VFW and the American Legion Post #210 in Anita.

Vince loved to go grocery shopping and running errands such as getting the mail and the newspaper. His favorite pastime was pitching horseshoes. He also enjoyed watching sporting events on TV, collecting coins and keeping records of the weather. He was a generous and selfless man whose family always loved his practical Christmas gifts.

Vince is survived by his wife, Elinor of Anita, Iowa; his daughter, Jan (Rich) Anderson of Rochester, MN; his son, John (Naomi) Ehrman of Casey, IA; a brother, Fred (Delores) Ehrman of Anita, IA; a granddaughter, Emma Anderson of Rochester, MN; nephews, Bob (Kathy) Ehrman of Anita, IA and Bill Ehrman of Adair, IA; nieces, Kay (Chris) Stork of Atlantic, IA and Kathy (Doug) Husted of Arlington, TX; and many other great-nephews and nieces.

Preceding Vince in death were his parents, Frederick and Theresa Ehrman; his brothers, Joe, Paul and James Ehrman; a daughter, Ann Julyn Ehrman; and a nephew, Bruce Ehrman.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.

Visitation with family will be Sunday, Nov. 29th from 5:00 - 7:00 at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita and again on Monday morning, Nov. 30th from 9:30 - 10:30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita.
