Viola passed away peacefully on February 25, 2013, at the age of 84, in Stockton California. She was born on November 1, 1928, to Henry William (Jip) Boggs and Gertrude E. Freielinger in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised in Atlantic, Iowa, and spent a number of childhood years on the family farm on Chestnut Street graduating from Atlantic High School in 1946. Shortly thereafter, she came to California to visit an Aunt in Sacramento and went out on a blind date with Gerald (Jerry) Lloyd Doud, whom she married on June 25, 1950, in Atlantic.
Viola worked and retired from the State of California On November 1, 1993. She volunteered for many years with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, as a member of the STARS, Sheriff Team of Active Retired Seniors, raised funds for the local Humane Society and was a genealogist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jip and Gertie Boggs; a brother, Jay Boggs; and a sister, Karen Thiner and husband, Jerry.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Lee Doud of Sonora, California and Diane Woodruff (Fred) of Stockton, California. Two grandsons, Matthew Woodruff of Patterson, California, and Andrew Woodruff (Kellie); one great-grandson, Ryan Woodruff all of Stockton, California. One brother, Richard Boggs (Lana) of Guthrie City, Iowa.
Per Viol'a request there will be a burial only at Greenwood Cemetery, (also known as the Cumberland Cemetery) near Cumberland, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013.
Any memorials are requested to go to the Atlantic Animal Shelter.
