Violet June Hilsabeck, the daughter of Everett (Dutch) and Naomi (Cavanaugh) Hilsabeck, was born August 15, 1945, in Audubon, Iowa and died February 11, 2015, at the Manning Plaza in Manning, Iowa at the age of 69 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
Violet was baptized at the First Christian Church in Audubon. She attended Kindergarten in Audubon then transferred to the Vinton School for the Blind graduating from High School with the Class of 1963. Violet moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and was employed at Mercy Hospital in the laundry and housekeeping department where she worked for over 30 years until she retired. She returned to Gray, Iowa where she lived with and cared for her mother. While living in Gray she loved to spend time at the Long Branch Restaurant. In 2006 Violet moved to the Friendship Village in Audubon. She enjoyed visiting all the shops in downtown Audubon, but most of all she enjoyed being part of the team at Jan’s Catering. In January of 2015 she moved to the Manning Plaza. Violet looked forward to and was very thankful for visits from her family, special care givers, and Sunday afternoon coffee gatherings.
Violet as preceded in death by her parents; her brother Lamont Hilsabeck; her brothers-in-law Eddie Wanninger and Walt Wanninger, and her nephew Marty Hilsabeck.
Survivors include her sisters Marlene Wanninger and Donna Wanninger both of Carroll, Iowa; her brother Doug and wife Jan Hilsabeck of Gray, Iowa; her sister-in-law Shirley (Hilsabeck) Rank of Glidden, Iowa; her nieces and nephews and spouses Rick and Lana Wanninger of Sun City, Arizona, Jody and Lynn Nelson of Hamlin, Iowa, Kurt and Angie Wanninger of Indiana, Todd and Jalynn Wanninger of Carroll, Iowa, Pam Hilsabeck of Des Moines, Iowa, Monica and Russell Sparks of Glidden, Iowa, Eric and Bianca Hilsabeck of Sioux City, Iowa, Janelle and Denny Hall of Scranton, Iowa, Joni and Kevin Wanninger of Carroll, Iowa, Tony and Lori Hilsabeck of Slater, Iowa, Tonia and Steve Andersen of Audubon, Iowa, Trudy Hilsabeck and friend Lyle Olesen both of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Tricia and Scott Deist of Audubon, Iowa; great nieces and great nephews, her extended Meislahn family, other relatives, and special friends locally and in Council Bluffs.
