Virgil Adams, 86, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa.
Virgil Dean Adams was born on November 27, 1919, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of Amos Leroy and Ruby (Sarvas) Adams.
Virgil had lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa, but has lived in Casey for almost 30 years.
He worked various jobs including driving a truck for New Sharon Stockyards, Angus Coal Company, Montt Construction, V.O. Concrete and Van Buskirk Construction in Sioux City, Iowa. Virgil's last employment was with the City of Casey, where he had worked for many years.
Virgil served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1945, during WWII. He was a member of the Anita American Legion Post #210 and the Anita VFW Post #8766
He enjoyed camping, short-cut trips, tinker work, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Elane of Casey, Iowa; daughter, Ruby Mae Snyder and her husband, Bruce of Oskaloosa, IA; sons, Larry Dean Adams and his wife, Cathy of Williamsburg, Virginia and Lee Adams and his wife, Pam of Beacon, Iowa; step-daughter, DeeCee West of Creston, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Erma Roberts and her husband, Dick of Las Vegas, Nevada and Bonnie Adams of Evans, Colorado; brother, Richard Adams and his wife, Bunny of Las Vegas, Nevada; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Harold, Homer, Loren and Gary; and a nephew, Gary.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2006, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, IA. Burial will be in the Canby Cemetery, Canby, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 29th, with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa.
