Virgil Glenn Hansen

Virgil Glenn Hansen, son of Nels George and Ida Hemmingsen Hansen, was born on October 19, 1928, at Audubon, Iowa and died at his home in Audubon on May 26, 2008, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
Virgil was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. He was raised on the family farm and received his elementary education at Douglas No. 6; then graduated from Audubon High School in 1947. He was active in all sports, especially football, and served as FFA President. He played football while attending Dana College, but left college to help his father on the farm.
On November 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Gladys Rose at Trinity Lutheran Church by Gray. They lived on the family farm, later purchasing it, and enjoyed general farming along with raising and feeding cattle. Along with farming he worked for the telephone company and A.S.C. office. They joined Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon where he was an active member, serving as Sunday School teacher, an usher, on the council, and as President. He was also active in Farm Bureau serving on various boards and as president. He served as a County Supervisor 8 years. Virgil enjoyed corn husking contests (state and national), playing cards, and playing football with the children and grandchildren. Virgil and Gladys enjoyed dancing, being members of the Square Dance Club, and also enjoyed some traveling.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Ruth Ann Campbell, an infant brother and an infant sister, his sister-in-law Ruth Jean Hansen; his niece Lois Campbell and his nephews: Lee Hansen and Don Hansen.
Survivors include his wife Gladys Hansen of Audubon, IA; his children: Rev. Mark and Lynelle Hansen of Kiron, IA; Cindy and Dr. Kirk Lane of Brentwood, TN; Rodney and Tracy Hansen of Audubon; his grandchildren: Joy and Rev. Mark Schreiber of New Richmond, WI; Eric and Rosie Hansen of Denver, Co; David Hansen of Garner, IA; Emily Hansen of Gongnun, South Korea; Nicole Lane and Kirsten Lane, both of Brentwood, TN; Brandon Hansen of Arcadia, IA; Chelsie Hansen of Palmerston North, New Zealand; Reva Hansen of Audubon; his great-grandchildren: Caleb, Isaac, and Benjamin Schreiber of New Richmond, WI; Nellie, Eva and Greta Hansen of Denver, CO; Ethan and Madelyn Hansen of Garner, IA; his brother Orville Hansen of Audubon; his sister-in-laws and brothers-in-law: Lorna and Lester Knute of Glidden, IA; Bernice and Tom Newell of Cedar Ridge, CO; Harry and Florence Rose of Carroll, IA; Louise and William Bruhn of Manning, IA; Calvin Campbell of Perry, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Thursday afternoon at 5:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Friday, May 30, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
