Virginia (Ginger) Mae Deardorff passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at an Omaha hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Benedict, Nebraska, on July 30, 1923, Ginger was an outgoing, fun-loving person who was a friend to young and old and known for her insight, common sense and great humor. She avidly followed her Cornhusker football teams, was a fan of good music and loved to dance. She enjoyed a full life and was respected and well loved by friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, and two brothers, Maurice and Clark Van Nostrand.
She is survived by her four children; three sons, John (Amy) Deardorff of Omaha, NE, Mark (Janice) Deardorff of Portland, OR, Scott (Christi) Deardorff of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Chris (Larry) Colletti of Downers Grove, IL; five grandchildren and her sister, Twyla Dorsey of Glendale, AZ.
Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa, on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a celebration reception at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Atlantic Heritage House and/or the American Cancer Society, two organizations she long supported.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is helping with the arrangements.
