Wayne "Sonny" Jensen, 71, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at his home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Sonny was born April 25, 1944, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Wayne Robert and Hazel Violet (Swolley) Jensen Sr. He grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. Sonny joined the US Marines and served during the Viet Nam conflict. Sonny was a truck driver for Roadway Trucking and he was also a lab technician at Henningsen Construction in Atlantic. He had moved back to Atlantic in 1987. Sonny was married to Barbara Oppold on May 26, 1989, in Atlantic.

Sonny was a member of the Red Oak Eagles #2715, VFW, American Legion Post 43 and the Teamsters.

While in high school, he was president of the FFA and the editor of the high school paper. Sonny enjoyed traveling throughout the states, was an avid reader, and family meant everything to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne R. and Hazel V. (Swolley) Jensen Sr.; children, Jayne Jensen and Wayne (Tag) Robert Jensen III; a sister, Violet C. Petersen; and a brother, Roger David Jensen.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Barbara Jensen of Atlantic, IA; his children, Kristine Olson of North Liberty, IA, Kevin (Heather) Jensen of Council Bluffs, IA, David Jensen of Santa Fe, NM, Dwayne Clark and fiancé Lisa Fichter of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Brandon Clark, Sadie Robberts, Eion Sorensen, Evan Sorensen, Jordan Kepper, Dillion Fiker, Autumn Jensen, Cameron Leeder, Allyson Jensen, Derek Jensen, Lauryn Olson and Courtney Olson; great-grandchildren, Gunner and Gavin Selders-Robberts; sisters, Rosemary Kirkendall of Frankfurt, IL, Janene Timm of Council Bluffs, IA and Linda (Tom) Gardner of Council Bluffs, IA.

Visitation is from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., with the funeral starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa, at a later date.
