Wayne Maas

March 21, 1925 — December 27, 2014

Wayne Leroy Maas was born March 21, 1925, in Casey, Iowa, to Merle and Florence (Davis) Maas. He passed away at the age of 89 on December 27, 2014, at the Dobson Home - Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, Arizona.

Wayne graduated from Casey High School and lived in the Casey and Adair area his entire life until July 2013, when he moved to the Renaissance Senior Living Facility in Sun Lakes, AZ.

In May 1949, Wayne married Jeanne Goehler in Germany. She passed away in 1972. He married Helen Mangeldorf of Adair, Iowa, in May of 1975. Helen died in August of 2005.

Wayne enlisted in the Army February 8, 1946, serving with the occupation forces in Germany. He re-enlisted in 1951 to serve during the Korean Conflict. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal and was honorably discharged January 7, 1953.

His career consisted of being self-employed as a radio/television repair business for 4 years, 7 years working as a mechanic at Ford garages and 28 years at Schildberg Construction Company, retiring in 1987.

Wayne loved to fish, hunt and later in life, did trapshooting; he was a member of the Mormon Trail Trapshooting Club. He was an avid reader of western novels and enjoyed playing double deck pinochle at the Adair meal site and later at Renaissance. He also enjoyed bowling and woodworking.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Merle and Florence Maas; brother, Victor Maas; and his two wives, Jeanne Maas and Helen Maas.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Carol Maas and Norma (Steve) Langer, all of Sun Lakes, AZ; sister, Norma (Jack) Carter of Urbandale, IA; step-daughters, Linda Nichols and Nancy Lovell both of Adair, IA; 5 step-grandchildren, Tammy Rangle of Garland, TX, Terry Nichols of Anita, IA, Dan Lovell and Matt Lovell both of Adair, IA and Nicole Stephen of Lenox, IA; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Iowa, Texas and Germany.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa. A private family burial will be held in Dalmanutha Cemetery, Casey, Iowa.
