Wilfrid (Willie) William Bintner, the son of Joseph Albert and Theresa Barbara (Thielen) Bintner, was born June 10, 1924, at his parent’s home in Exira Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died March 30, 2013, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 20 days. Wilfrid was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Exira and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1942. He then was engaged in farming. On December 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Avis Frederick at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. Nine children Dennis, Carol, Kathy, James, Michael, Patricia, Linda, William, and Steven were born to this union. Wilfrid and Avis continued to farm in the Audubon County area. In 1965, Wilfrid attended and graduated from the Commercial Extension College in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduation he was then employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation as an inspector which included highways, bridges, and other projects until he retired in 1986. Wilfrid was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira where he had served as a Trustee for several years. He also was a member of the Audubon/Exira Knights of Columbus. During retirement Wilfrid learned to play golf and was fortunate enough to score a hole in one. Wilfrid and Avis enjoyed playing cards. He enjoyed woodworking, doing yard work and gardening. In later years he enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially college football and college basketball and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Wilfrid loved to walk and could be seen walking around the Exira community. When his knees began to bother him he enjoyed driving around town in his Hawkeye golf cart. Wilfrid was preceded in death by his great grandson Caleb Hargis; his daughter-in-law Julie Bintner, his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Esta Frederick; his brother Nick Bintner; and his sisters-in-law Dorothy Hansen and Gertrude Bintner. Survivors include his wife of 66 years Avis Bintner of Exira, Iowa; his children Denny (Pam) Bintner of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Carol Bintner of Des Moines, Iowa, Kathy (Allan) Hansen of Ankeny, Iowa, Jim (Kelley) Bintner of Urbandale, Iowa, Mike (Judy) Bintner of Exira, Iowa, Trish (Bob) McElderry of West Des Moines, Iowa, Linda (Gary) Brooks of St. Charles, Iowa, Bill Bintner of St. Charles, Iowa, and Steve (Steph) Bintner of Indianola, Iowa; his 19 grandchildren Kim (Trent) Josten, Matt (Leslie) Bintner, Greg (Brigette) Hansen, Amy (Jimmy) Martin, Todd (Rachel) Hansen, Stephanie (Brad) Simmons, Michelle (Matt) Starman, Joe Bintner, Ashley McElderry (Phil Hargis), Adam McElderry. Angela (Clint) Schramm, Nicole Brooks (Jeff Dingeman), T.J. Brooks, Billy Bintner, Adam (Lindsie) Hutton, Boone (Nicole) Hutton, David Hutton, Bailey Bintner, and Bryce Bintner; his 19 great grandchildren Tessa and Abram Bintner, Sam and Ben Hansen, Addilyn Martin, Aubree and Lane Hansen, Quinn Simmons, Jace Starman, Brant McElderry, Gavin Hargis, Alayna Schramm, Jaden Dingeman, Blake, Hailey, and Reece Hutton, Tabitha and Maddyson Hutton, Jaeti Hutton and two great grandchildren on the way; his brother Arnold (Lorraine) Bintner of Exira, Iowa; his sisters Agnes ( Eldon) Riesgaard of Avoca, Iowa, and Ramona (Duane) Johnson of St. Cloud, Florida; his aunt Sister Lourita Bintner of Colorado Springs, Colorado; many nieces nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery east of Exira, Iowa.
Service:
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Emmanuel Aguwoke on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening April 2, 2013, from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. beginning with a rosary at 5:30 P.M. and a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa
