William Harris

William D. Harris, 78, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
William Dallas Harris was born August 3, 1928 in Audubon County, Iowa, the son of Earl J. and Elma C. (Holaday) Harris.
Bill graduated from the Harlan High School, Harlan, Iowa, in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 15, 1950, and served honorably for four years as a Flight Engineer on B-29 Bombers and K-C-97 Tankers. Following his discharge, Bill remained an active patriot and was a member of the Anita American Legion Post #210.
On Christmas day of 1951, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara "Bobbie" Barnhart at the Church of Christ in Bridgewater, Iowa.
He was the local manager of the West Iowa Telephone Company in Anita, for most of the 40 years he worked for at the company.
When a small lad and sitting on his mother's lap, he asked Jesus Christ to come into his heart and save him. Bill remained faithful to the Lord his entire life and attended services at Sunnyside Bible Chapel in Atlantic and at the Massena Baptist Church.
Those preceding Bill in death were his parents, Earl and Elma Harris; his parents-in-law, Frank and Helen Barnhart; his brothers, Eugene, Larry, Ted, Lloyd and Daryl; his sisters, Arthadell Petersen and Lois Cooley; sisters-in-law, Barbara Goff Harris, Barbara Briggs Harris; and a grand-nephew, Keegan Meyer.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Harris of Anita, Iowa; his aunts, Madge Barnhart, Inez May Ogborn, Berniece Salts and her husband, Walter. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law, Ardyth Harris, Rhea Harris; brothers-in-law, Donald C. Petersen and Herbert Cooley, as well as cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, with Pastor James Long of the Massena Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Committal services and interment will be in the Massena Center Cemetery, north of Massena, Iowa, with military graveside rites conducted by the Anita American Legion Post #210. Fellowship and lunch will follow at the Massena Baptist Church.
