William Luzadder

July 6, 1932 — March 25, 2015

"Bill" William George Luzadder, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Alegent Creighton Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Bill was born on July 6, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of George and Blanche (Green) Luzadder. Blanche passed away when Bill was very young and his father remarried. He was then raised by his step-mother, Florence, whom he loved very much. He attended school through the eighth grade and then left to work and help his family. Bill lived in Des Moines for over 50 years before moving to Atlantic in 1995.

He had many great employment opportunities over the years, starting with Hotel Ft. Des Moines for four years as a fry cook, then the YMCA in Des Moines as a fry cook, in food service for nine years, an apartment manager in Des Moines for fifteen years, Mercy Hospital in Des Moines as head of Environmental Services for over 25 years, and most recently, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic for 16 years as the custodian.

Bill was a friend to all. It seemed everyone knew him. He and his very close friend, Ron Butler (who passed away in 2010), were well known as "the two guys who were always walking around town". After Ron's passing, Bill's health began to decline significantly, eventually leaving him unable to walk as he always had.

Bill was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. He was a faithful volunteer - he operated the power-point for church and was active in the church activities as his health allowed. In these last years, Pam Mennes would drive him to the "Over 60s" group at church and the "Triple Ts" group that went different places for lunch. As needed after Ron's death, Bill's neighbor, Maxine Lambert would drive him to church on Saturday evenings and helped him with various errands. Carol Seddon, with support from Delbert Thurman, has handled all of Bill's business, arranged doctor appointments, provided transportation to and from hospitals and other institutions, and helped him with a number of changes of residence for many years. He depended on her, and she went out of her way to care for him faithfully.

Bill's cat, Kiki, was very dear to him; thus Kiki was very spoiled.

Bill is survived by many church co-workers and friends (some of whom have been named above); his sister, Patricia Ann Hall of Knoxville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Blanche Luzadder; his step-mother, Florence Luzadder; many siblings; and his special friend of over 42 years, Ron Butler.

Bill requested memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.

Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015, with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
