William Mcmullen

William E. "Bill" McMullen, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

William Eugene McMullen was born December 25, 1927, in Cumberland, Iowa, and was one of 13 children born to William E. and Mary (Eblen) McMullen.

Bill was a lifelong Cass County, Iowa resident and a graduate of the Cumberland High School.

He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from December 1, 1950 until November 14, 1952.

Bill was the owner and operator of McMullen Construction Company for many years.

On December 26, 1972, Bill married Jeanie Oathoudt in Elk Point, South Dakota.

He was a member of the Atlantic United Church of Christ, where he faithfully moved their snow for many winters.

Bill was very active in Masonic, Eastern Star and Shrine organizations. He was a member of Pymosa Lodge #271, A.F. & A.M., where he took the Worshipful Master's position 3 times, and was a 32nd Degree Mason; belonged to the Scottish Rite and York Rite Masonic organizations; was a member of the ZaGaZig Shrine Club and was a member and past president of the Nishna Valley Shrine Club and was a member of the Shrine Hospital Dads. He was also member of the Audubon Pacer Club. Bill was also a 25-year member of the Golden Rule Chapter #194, Order of Eastern Star, and twice served as the Chapter's Worthy Patron. Bill was a Life Member of the Atlantic Elk's Club #445; was a past President of the Atlantic Eagle's Club; belonged to the American Legion Post # 43 and the Atlantic V.F.W.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanie McMullen of Atlantic, Iowa; his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Sam Fager of Atlantic, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brian, Kristi and Brad Fager; seven brothers, Francis Lee McMullen and his wife, Joy of Lompoc, California, Frank McMullen and his wife, Carole of Massena, Iowa, Tom McMullen and his wife, Sheryl of Irwin, Iowa, Myron McMullen and his wife, Cynthia of LaPlace, Louisiana, Robert McMullen and his wife, Carol also of LaPlace, Louisiana, Steven McMullen and his wife, Judy of Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, Lloyd Allen McMullen and his wife, Monika of Copperas Cove, Texas; three sisters, Irene Bywater of Clearfield, Utah, Sally O'Riley and her husband, Dale of Burlington, Iowa, DeeDee Erickson and her husband, David of Lorimor, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Helen Greene of Dallas-Melcher, Iowa; brother-in-law, Harrison Miller of Potomac, Michigan. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ethel Oathoudt of Atlantic, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dennis Oathoudt and his wife, Karen of Atlantic, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Carol Hogueson and her husband, Bob of Griswold, Iowa, and Debbie Metheny of Atlantic, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William, Sr. and Mary McMullen; a brother, Leonard "Red" McMullen; his sister, Bonnie Miller; his first wife, Marjorie (Kuehl) McMullen; a grandson, Matthew Fager, in infancy, and his father-in-law, Bob Oathoudt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2008, at the Atlantic United Church of Christ with the Reverend Nancy Jensen officiating.

Public visitation is set to begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening, conducted by Pymosa Lodge # 271, A.F. & A.M. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Atlantic Color Guard.

Following the cemetery services a fellowship and lunch will be held in the United Church of Christ's Fellowship Hall.
