William Overturf

December 22, 1943 — April 6, 2015

William "Bill" Overturf was born in Moline, Illinois, on December 22, 1943, to Paul and Doris Overturf. He was raised by his grandparents until their death and then was moved to an orphanage.

He enlisted in the Army in 1966. While in the Army, he earned Expert Marksmanship on a 50 BMG rifle, anti-tank jeep mounted cannons and M-1/M-16 rifles. He also excelled at driving Deuce and a Half transports. After his discharge, be obtained his CDL license and drove trucks for over 50 years until his retirement.

He married Linda Miers on April 2, 1977, in Boone, Iowa, and celebrated 38 years together.

His hobbies included fishing, tractors, bird watching, working on vehicles and raising roses, but his true joy was his model trains.

He went to the great railroad in the sky on Monday, April 6, 2015, at Caring Acres in Anita, Iowa.

Preceding Bill in death were his father, Paul; mother, Doris; step-mother, Linda; and 2 uncles, Alfie and Clyde.

Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Overturf; 3 brothers, Joseph (Michele) Overturf, Jerry (Shaunae) Overturf and John Overturf; six children, James Overturf, Shawn (Amy) Miers, Shannon (Galen) Miers-Crozier, Sarah (Cory) Edmunds, Stephanie (Shawna) Johnson-Miers and Nathanial (Molli) Overturf. Also surviving him are 14 grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews and 2 great-nieces.

There will be a visitation with family present from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Grand Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa.
