Wilma Elaine Behler was born July 18, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Lillian (Kopska) Behler in Audubon County, Iowa, and passed away April 3, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa.
After her father passed away on December 10, 1918, her mother married Forrest McFadden on February 1, 1922. Wilma grew up on the farm in Audubon County and graduated from the Audubon High School. She taught country school west of Audubon for one year.
On May 1, 1937, Wilma married Russell Rubel in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple farmed in Greeley Township until 1965 when they moved to Audubon. Wilma owned and operated the Audubon laundry, worked at Marv's Grocery Store and graded eggs at Audubon Produce.
Wilma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, making Christmas decorations and basket weaving. She entered baked goods and sewing items in the Audubon County Fair. She was a member of the Audubon Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Dorcas Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Rubel; her son, Roger Rubel; and her parents, Henry Behler and Forrest and Lillian McFadden; her sister and brother-in-law, Isabelle (Earl) Olsen; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold (Nettie) Rubel, Marion (Leona) Rubel and Clarence (Margaret) Rubel.
Wilma is survived by her son, Darrell Rubel and his wife, Paula of Hailey, Idaho, and their children, Laura Laehn, of Winona, Minnesota, and Sharla (John) Riott of Fort Collins, Colorado; her great-grandchildren, Eric and Ethan Laehn and Grayson, Blake and Payne Riott; and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 6, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry-England Funeral Home in Audubon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon.
Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Friendship Home, both in Audubon.
Hockenberry-England Funeral and Cremation Services in Audubon are in charge of the arrangements.
